RawSpiceBar: $6.40 / month

RawSpiceBar sends out three spice flavor kits that are native to a particular region, which is the theme for that month. This month was Norway! Y'all, these are My People! So exciting. I feel like this one was made. for. me. The information card included with the spices came with background info on the region, stories with culinary history, and some excellent recipe ideas.

The spice blends are:

-Gravlax: Caraway, which is apparently Europe’s oldest condiment, is the star of this Nordic inspired blend- bringing out a peppery, earthy flavor that is even a bit citrusy. Recommended for gravlax (dry-cured salmon marinated in herbs) obviously, but also good for chicken or tofu. Who knew?

- Winter Herbs: perfect for a fall inspired chicken pot pie or spiral veggie pie. Rub onto chicken, turkey or pork for an easy flavor burst. I had to go to the ingredients list to find what all was in here.

- Gingerbread Spices: balances warm & spicy flavors with cool, citrusy ones due to the influence of green cardamom, star anise & black peppercorns. They included a gorgeous recipe for pepparkakor, a traditional Scandinavian cookie, that I can't wait to make!

Does anyone else watch Vikings? I feel like Gravlax should be the name of a character. Much more intimidating than Gingerbread, yeah?

RawSpiceBar's tag line is all about Small Batch, Freshly Ground, Global Spices, and they definitely deliver. Can't wait to see what next month brings.
